Associate Spotlight: Jimmy Brooks

Here at Musselman Hotels we’re starting a new series where we will feature some of our top associates from each of our properties. We are happy to introduce Jimmy Brooks, Chief Maintenance Engineer, who has been with us since 2012!

Tell us a little about yourself… Where are you from? What do you like to do outside work? How did you end up in the Hospitality industry? When did you join the Residence Inn Paducah team?

I have lived in Paducah most of my life (except going to College). I take care of rental property that I own. In the summer we have a pool and a hot tub in the backyard and I enjoy driving our Z4 convertible. The reason why I ended up in the hospitality industry is because I was looking for a change from working outdoors most of the time and I liked the Exterior Look of the property here at the Residence Inn.

What was your background (School and/or Work) or experience before joining Musselman Hotels at the Homewood Suites?

I was was an Independent Contractor working in building and construction. I also worked as an industrial crane rigger in repair and installation.

Did you know anything about hotels and the hospitality industry before starting with us?

No, other than staying in hotels when I would travel for business for weeks at a time.

So what was the learning curve like and how is Musselman Hotels different from other places and/or hotels you have worked in?

The learning curve was not bad at all, because I could utilize what I already knew, and learning new things wasn’t an issue.

Have you received any awards/recognition since joining the company? If so what did that mean for you?

I have won Employee of the Year, it felt good and made me feel like I was part of the Musselman Family.

What types of support do you receive from management and other team members?

I receive excellent support from everyone. Any materials I need to purchase for a job, it usually gets approved.

How have your duties at the Residence Inn Paducah changed over time?

My duties have always been the same, but they have become easier with time as I got used to the schedule.

What is the most interesting challenge you have been faced with at the Homewood Suites and how did you handle it?

When the dexatron unit went down in the pool area, and the process it took to fix it. I replaced belts and electrical components that was scary and exciting at the same time.

What is your favorite thing about your position?

That I get to plan out my day, that every day is different, and it is not monotonous.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Ride around in my Z4 BMW with the top down.

If you had to choose one motto and/or saying you live by, what would it be?

Anything that is worth doing, is worth doing right the first time.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Retired at the age of 65.
