Associate Spotlight: Neri Vasquez-Jimenez
Neri Vasquez-Jimenez is another wonderful Musselman associate who has worked at the Embassy Suites Louisville since 2008. Her current position is Housekeeping Supervisor. Read below to get to know her a little better!
Tell us a little about yourself… Where are you from? What do you like to do outside work? How did you end up in the Hospitality industry? When did you join the Embassy Suites team?
I was born in Oaxaca, Mexico. When I’m not at work I love spending time with my daughter and my family. I started as a housekeeper 17 years ago and in 2008 I began my career as assistant housekeeping manager. I joined the Embassy Suites team 9 years ago.
What was your background (School and/or Work) or experience before joining Musselman Hotels at the Embassy Suites?
I dropped out of school in the 9th grade but I have 17 years’ worth of experience in housekeeping.
Did you know anything about hotels and the hospitality industry before starting with us?
Yes, I worked in other hotels before joining Musselman’s team.
So what was the learning curve like and how is Musselman Hotels different from other places and/or hotels you have worked in?
The hardest part has been my English skills progressing and the environment has been so good. Everyone I’ve worked with so far has been excellent and I’ve learned a lot.
Have you received any awards/recognition since joining the company? If so, what did that mean for you?
I’ve had the honor of receiving 8 recognitions and it’s been satisfying. I’m thankful my work is appreciated.
What types of support do you receive from management and other team members?
I’ve gotten some of the best support from such excellent managers.
How have your duties at the Embassy Suites changed over time?
Over time I feel that it has gotten easier to do.
What is the most interesting challenge you have been faced with at the Embassy Suites and how did you handle it?
My very first day at the Embassy Suites, one of the housekeepers got hurt and the manager had to go to the hospital with her and I was left alone to deal with the rooms. Thankfully I managed.
What is your favorite thing about your position?
Being able to help and being a part of such a great team.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Being able to spend time with my family.
If you had to choose one motto and/or saying you live by, what would it be?
Life is not easy, just know how to live.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
As long as I’m still healthy, hopefully still working too.
