As Mr. RVA pulled up to the Westin Hotel and Resort in Richmond, VA., and let “Really Love” by D’Angelo escape from the car windows, excitement filled the night’s sky. Within five paces of entering the lobby, Chef John Papa greeted me with a welcoming smile and handshake. “This is certainly going to be a great night,” I thought, as I was lead to the space set up for your’s truly. So many meanings of the restaurant’s name circulated through my mind as I asked Chef J, how he engineered the idea. “Rodock, what it means to cook is to care deeply for the people you are preparing for.” My thought; amazingly handcrafted cuisines highlighting local Virginian farms and vendors. This sentiment, this driving thought, is evident in each detail one sees and every bite one takes. Hues of mahogany, green foliage, and the aroma of fresh sage, captivated the senses as I took in the atmosphere. Ladies and Gentlemen of Discovering RVA, it is my honor to present to you, pt.3 of “The Hotel Series,” Small Batch – Local Kitchen. @smallbatchrva . Appetizer- Togarashi Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls starring Autumn Olives Farm’s famed Pork, fresh Micro Spring Salad & Black Garlic Aioli. . Entree- Seven Hills Beef Short Rib with a savory Legend Brown Ale and Vidalia Onion Glace de Veau, Boursin Whipped Yukon Gold Potatoes & complimented by Rainbow Malibu Carrots. . Wine Pairing- a glass of 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Beringer, Knights Valley, Sonoma, CA. 🍷🇺🇸 . Dessert- Pisa’chia Olive oil Cake with a scoop of Charm School’s Tigertail lce Cream (Orange lce Cream with Anise Caramel) as the plate was laced with Molasses Cookie Crumbles and garnished with Mint Leaves. . Jessica- Thank you so much for your service and hospitality. . Chef John B. Papa- My Goodness! For an experience of this magnitude, I wish Instagram would give me way more characters than the set parameters. A MENU CRAFTED FOR DISCOVERING RVA? WHAT?!
